New Music Players
NMP is a top UK ensemble specialising in modern music. Founded by British composer Ed Hughes, its commissions and many premieres have included composers such as Howard Skempton, Rolf Hind, James Wood, Michael Finnissy.
NMP features some of the UK’s finest and most versatile musicians; core members are also members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra; Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden; Manchester Camerata; the English Chamber Orchestra; Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; Mistura and a wide variety of new/early music ensembles and jazz outfits. NMP feature on several recordings including a world première recording of five New Music Players commissions on the London Independent Records label, funded by the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, and a disc of works by Japanese composer Jo Kondo. In 2007 they featured on a major DVD release of Ed Hughes's recent scores for two classic 1920s silent films by Sergei Eisenstein - Battleship Potemkin and STRIKE! See right for further details.
